Snowflake Challenge #9

Challenge #9: In your own space, celebrate a personal win from the past year: it can be a list of fanworks you're especially proud of, time you spent in the community, a quality or skill you cultivated in yourself, something you generally feel went well.

I really struggled with this question. In fact, I had almost resolved to leave it unanswered.

2022 was a difficult year. In hindsight, I am unable to sum up in words how difficult it was, truly. There were a lot of day-to-day struggles, a lot of struggles with both my physical and mental health, and many things I didn't really feel I could talk to anyone about. And there's very little I felt I could point to as a clear win: I barely left my house for most of the year. I felt almost entirely disconnected from a world that was ignoring Covid and opening back up while I was still fighting to avoid it (even after having it, mildly, in January 2022).

So I told [personal profile] wibbble pretty much what I've said here, and he responded with: "you started your university course, that's definitely a win."

I was like, well, I'm not really sure that's a win, it's just starting something, not getting anywhere or finishing anything.

And he replied with, "When you're standing at the bottom of a pit, and you put one foot on the ladder, that's a win. You can't get out of the pit if you don't put that one foot on to start with. In some ways, that first foot is the hardest part of your journey out."

So yeah. What I did in 2022 was, I started climbing out.

Wise words from Wibbble. That first step is always the hardest, so you have had a win. Keep climbing.
