What I generally love to see in fanworks:

Desperate need or longing for love (that is then provided).

Eucatastrophe (the opposite of catastrophe - a sudden joyous turn in a story).
Quarrels and fights, high emotional stakes and risks, passion raging out of control, desperation, and sudden impulses.
Canon-divergence! (Especially Fëanorians Win AUs.)
Meeting someone for the first time and feeling an instant kinship with them.
Loyalty or devotion to a cause or a person.
Working together like a well-oiled machine.
Battlefield friendships.
Enemies working together to defeat a common greater enemy (then figuring out that they aren't really enemies anymore).
Admiring someone's skill or competence.
Compassion, mercy, and pity as themes.
Geopolitics, maps, layouts of houses and lands.
Fashion and landscape descriptions.
Canon-divergence AUs.
Space AUs -- every canon should be set in space in at least a few fics!
Thinking outside the box: coming up with new and different takes and spins on events, characters, and concepts. Wanna write something you think is a bit cracktastic? I'm your person.
Trans (including non-binary) and intersex characters, especially explorations of the Elven concept of gwegwin.
Fic inspired by my own fic: remixes, based on, set in the same 'verse, using the same plotline, etc.

Regarding romance/sex:
I love kink and smut! I'm cool with any kind of ship: poly relationships, het, femslash, and slash, as well as of course solo masturbation and sex that doesn't really fall into the above categories at all, including smut involving trans and intersex characters. I'm cool with underage as long as all parties have been through puberty, and I adore teacher/student dynamics or situations where the parties involved have unequal levels of power (especially if it's Complicated). Loyalty kink is my FAVE, and I like it to be mutual.

For BDSM specifically, I prefer mind or power games to whips and chains, or alternatively, playful experimentation rather than Serious BDSM Is Serious. I don't want anything super heavy or that has the potential to cause long term damage. For instance, spanking, yes, whipping, no, light knife play involving shallow cuts, yes, deep knife play that results in scars, no, leading someone around on a leash for a bit, yes, keeping them as a slave, no. Talking about heavy BDSM scenarios as a "threat" is generally fine. Please do ask if you're unsure.

Dubious consent can also be fun to play with, especially somnophilia or scenarios that involve sex pollen or being forced to have sex by a third party. I love seeing characters so mutually overwhelmed by desire that they can't resist each other. Outside of my DNWs, I have no real boundaries when it comes to kink or sex acts and will happily read anything, though I particularly enjoy:

For ships involving only men: auto-anal and auto-fellatio, rimming, watersports, comeplay of all kinds, nipple sucking (especially ritualised), intercrural sex, frottage (especially clothed frottage including coming in pants), and lovingly described blowjobs. Anal sex is good too, but I prefer it not be considered the be-all and end-all of sex between men.

For ships involving only women: cunnilingus, any kind of anal play, especially rimming, strap-on play, nipple play, and tribadism.

For ships involving a man and a woman: femdom, pegging, cunnilingus, especially queening, vaginal sex, anal sex, and nipple play. I like it when the pair are either both equally in control or a woman is but that doesn't necessarily mean she has to be on top. Not a fan of het fic where the man is totally in control and the woman is virginal and sort of swept away by him, I like men who are more submissive than dominant, or who at the very least are more concerned with their partner's pleasure than their own.

For threesomes/moresomes involving men and women, or people who don't really fall into the above categories: Double penetration is fun, but equally non-penetrative sex including frottage, oral sex, intercrural sex, or handjobs.

And then, there are some things I would rather not see in gifts written for me:

Outright and graphically described/depicted rape/noncon, torture, extreme physical or mental suffering, 'misery porn', or grimdark.

Harm to animals that goes beyond what's expected in canon. Fine to note that a horse was killed in battle, or that a rabbit was shot and cooked for food, or that an Elf defended themselves from a bear attack, but no graphic or senseless harm to animals, especially cats or dogs.

A focus on sickness or illness, pregnancy and babies (except where specifically prompted). Okay to mention these things as they are part of life, but I don't want a fic all about them. For children, it is always fine to write about canon characters and textual ghosts; what I'd rather not see is a story focused on an original child character, unless prompted.

Extreme, out-of-character, romantic angst or miscommunication. If the problem keeping the lovers apart can be solved with one straightforward conversation which they totally have opportunity to have and just keep not having, then it's gone too far. Legitimate and brief misunderstanding or miscommunication is entirely fine.

For smut: scat, emetophilia (vomiting kink), food involved in sex, BDSM that has the potential to cause long term damage, using safewords during play that isn't specifically consent play (a 'no' or 'stop' should suffice in all other cases).

Homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, fatphobia, or the effects thereof as a major part of the story.

Character-bashing. Don't do it to any character, but especially not to the Fëanorians. I love them and want them to be happy.

Modern AUs, AUs that aren't canon-divergence or Space AUs. Please no mermaids, A/B/O, soulmarks, hanakaki, or any other alternate universe or alternate reality.

"Redemption" or characters feeling that they need to be redeemed, sorrow for "sin," angsting forever by the seaside, the Valar being right and good in everything they do, and characters needing to suffer for the things they've done. In general, the concept of 'sin' in Tolkien's work is something I'd rather not see at all. Maglor can angst a little by the seaside if it's necessary for the story but ultimately he should move on with his life in whatever way.

My DNWs for exchanges don't necessarily mean that I have triggers or squicks around any of this material, they just mean I have particular preferences or like to read this kind of content in particular moods. Basically, I can't back-button out of a gift and I have to comment on it, so I want to be sure I'm happy to read it at all times.
